Schisandra Berry (Schisandra chinensis) Powder Extract (4:1 concentration) is an ancient Chinese medicinal herb. Schisandra Berry Extract is an adaptogen, which means it can help the body adapt to all sorts of stressors and calm the heart and quiet the spirit. It may help the body in fighting imbalance, increase overall energy, aid in stress resistance, and increase endurance or athletic performance. This ingredient may be added to foods and beverages or smoothies and green drinks. It is a reddish-to-brownish powder. PFL Non-GMO Pesticide Free powder extracts are not ETO Treated or Gamma Irradiated. Some typically gummy, oily or damp extracts require an anti-caking agent to maintain its powder form. Outstandingly good
I originally bought 4 ozs of this product through Amazon, then followed up with 12 ozs from pforlife.com. Everything that is said about this berry is true: it improves sleep (but don't take it at night--might keep you awake!), energy, mood etc etc--and the effects are felt right away. It feels very gentle, though, does not seem to interact with any other herb. Good for the urinary tract, eyes. I am sure you will feel a difference. The taste of this extract is strong, and not terribly pleasant. The berry powder itself is slightly sweet with astringency; the extract is more bitter (which proves the concentration of the various helpful principles), and even has a rather soapy or chemical taste. This is probably the result of the extract having been extracted in both water and alcohol--which concentrates more of the good qualities, in contrast to most powders, which are only water-extracted. I am quite sure that this soapy taste is NOT a result of any impurity, just a result of the extract's potency. And it IS potent: you will feel the effects of even a quarter of a teaspoon, and the lift you get is quite long-lasting. I have noticed no bad effects whatsoever from it. This one is a keeper, even though it tastes rather bad--cap it if you don't tolerate it--because the effects are strikingly good.
